They were united by the desire to give space to a form of art capable of telling stories and evoking imagery with immediacy and depth:<strong> illustration<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In this brief introduction we would like to thank <strong data-start=\"81\" data-end=\"101\">Chiara Boschiero<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"106\" data-end=\"126\">Eleonora Casetta<\/strong>, who sparked the initial idea of the contest, <strong data-start=\"161\" data-end=\"179\">Simona Boldini<\/strong>, who came up with the name <em data-start=\"207\" data-end=\"214\">BOit!<\/em>, and <strong data-start=\"223\" data-end=\"235\">Civico32<\/strong>, which made it possible to turn the initial idea into reality.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the beginning, BOit chose to intertwine the language of images with the urgencies of the present, with a particular focus on social inclusion, active participation, and the enhancement of local heritage.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Each edition of the contest revolves around a specific theme, inspired by the city of Bologna and its cultural, urban, and human heritage.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Today, BOit is a project that brings to life exhibitions, workshops, and ever-evolving initiatives that involve illustrators and diverse audiences, in Italy and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b>1st Edition \u2013 Illustrating Welcoming: the Towers<\/b><b><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The first edition of BOit took place in 2019, promoted by the associations <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carte Diem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Civico32<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The founding board included <\/span><b>Chiara Boschiero<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Renata Giannelli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Marco Ottolenghi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Francesca Rametta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Sara Bernardi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Annalisa Rosati<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The first BOit! logo was designed and created by <\/span><b>Renata Giannelli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The chosen theme was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">welcoming<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014a foundational value for a city like Bologna, historically open to dialogue and the movement of people and cultures.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The visual symbol selected for this first edition was the pair of medieval towers inside a square.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From the outset, BOit stood out for its social commitment: workshops and support activities were organized to ensure the participation of both individuals from protected categories and emerging illustrators.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Among the educational activities of the first edition were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A masterclass led by <\/span><b>Renata Giannelli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in collaboration with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooperativa Sociale Nazareno<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Casa Mantovani<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two free open masterclasses on \u201cHow to develop a graphic illustration project,\u201d led by <\/span><b>Annamaria Stanghellini<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Valentina Lasagni<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jury was composed of professionals from the publishing and art sectors: <\/span><b>Elena Pasoli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Otto Gabos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Chiara Boschiero<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Eleonora Casetta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Sara Bernardi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Omraam Tatcheda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Marianna Balducci<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Emanuela Candini<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Emanuela Ciroldi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The three winners of the first edition were <\/span><b>Enrico Lugli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Daniela Masia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Marta Viviani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The exhibition of the selected works was hosted at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/bo-it.org\/wpsite\/en\/ed-2019\/le-opere-selezionate\">Discover all selected works from the 1st edition<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>2nd Edition \u2013 Rethinking Bologna: the Porticoes<\/b><b><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In a time marked by the pandemic and social distancing, the idea for the second edition took shape around the theme <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRethinking Bologna\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: an invitation to imagine new forms of relationships, public space, and collective life, starting from the city\u2019s post-pandemic rebirth.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The symbolic outline chosen to represent the edition was that of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">porticoes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, evoking a visual suggestion of an embrace in the form of two adjacent arches. A new curatorial team\u2014<\/span><b>Sara Bernardi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Marta Viviani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Carlotta Artioli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Costanza Rosa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014led an edition with an international scope, centered around the theme <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cClimate Change and Ecological Transition\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The symbolic outline chosen was that of Bologna\u2019s ancient walls, the polygonal circle that defines the city\u2019s shape: a visual element reminiscent of a beehive cell structure.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In this edition, significant effort was put into promoting the contest and disseminating its theme\u2014timely and open to collective reflection. style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as first prize winner, had the opportunity to present her work in a solo exhibition at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Millennium Gallery<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Bologna, in collaboration with BOit.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The awards ceremony and final exhibition of the 30 selected works were held at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salaborsa Library<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Bologna\u2019s cultural heart, with the patronage of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Municipality of Bologna<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In this edition, we introduced something new: the exhibition became a travelling show, stopping at museums and bookstores across Italy\u2014from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MuMa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Milazzo, to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piccolo Museo Radici<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Palermo, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Civic Library Enzo Marioni<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Santena, and the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inchiostro Festival<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Alessandria.
